Rajkot is the fourth largest city of Gujarat. The latter is in the center of Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara and Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Rajkot is the 35th largest urban agglomeration in India, with a population of over 1.8 million in 2018 (approximately). Rajkot is the ninth cleanest city in India and the 22nd fastest growing city in the world as of July 2019.  About this sound, the city has the administrative headquarters of Rajkot district, which is 245 km from the state capital Gandhinagar, and is situated on the banks of the Aji and Nyari rivers. Rajkot was the capital of Saurashtra state from 15 November 1948 to 31 October 1956, before its merger with the Bombay state on 1 November 1956. Rajkot was reestablished in the state of Gujarat from 1 May 1960.
