Ahmedabad is the largest city in the state of Gujarat. It is the seventh in the city in India. The city, with a population of fifty-one lakh, is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River. Ahmedabad used to be the capital of Gujarat before the capital was shifted to Gandhinagar in the 1980s. Ahmedabad is also known as ‘Asaval’ as well as Ahmedabad is also known as Karnavati. The foundation of this city was laid in the year 1811. The city was named after Sultan Ahmed Shah.
